Bear Aware is an initiative to reduce bear-human conflicts in residential areas through community-based education programs. The City of Fernie posts updates on the Bear Aware website.

The department maintains digital and hard copy maps for the legal survey base plan, waterworks, sanitary sewer and storm systems, and associated as-builts of new installation projects. Also work on watercourse protection.
Residential curbside waste collection and the blue bag recycling program is available in the city of Fernie. The program is coordinated by the Regional District of East Kootenay. See website for details on materials accepted at the local Transfer Station and through curbside recycling.

The Rocky Mountain Education Series consists of three main programs: Eco-Entrepreneur,Zero Waste, and Beyond Recycling. The forcus is to inspire environmental awareness and sustainable living among youth in the region. This is a Wildsight program, currently run out of the Fernie Wildsight Branch.
